On June 10 the New York “Run For The Fallen” under the auspices of Karen Wright, NY Director “Honor and Remember” was a huge success. During the course of their 142 mile journey the 25 Veterans and active duty members arrived at Mile Marker HM-209 which included the Gold Star Meyer family and the dedicated members AMVETS Post 897 and AMVETS Post 2000 which included AMVETS, Sons, Riders and Ladies Auxiliary members who worked cohesively to make sure the memory of PFC David M Meyer Jr, who made the ultimate sacrifice, was Honored and Remembered.
AMVETS Post 897-NY Commander C. Daniel Dunkle recognized Squadron 2000-NY Commander Stephen Greene and fellow Squadron members. Commander Dunkle provided the following comment to describe the Sons participatory role. “The world would be a much better place if everyone felt and acted the same way as Post (Squadron) 2000-NY Sons of AMVETS. Setting the example and doing exactly what the Sons are designed to do, support Veterans and their functions.”
NYS “Run For The Fallen” started in Syracuse where a team of 25 Veterans and active duty members of the military will embark on a 142+ mile journey to honor the more than 312 NY Service Members who died as a result of serving during the War on Terror and in support of Operation Active Endeavor, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn. Each mile of the route will be dedicated to an Individual New York Hero and his or her family. The run team will stop at each “Hero Marker” to give individual tribute to Fallen Soldiers as well as waiting Gold Star family members, friends and comrades.
