LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FOR September 18, 2023, IS POSTED FOR YOUR REVIEW

AMVETS Family members and friends,

Veterans Day is special for Sons of AMVETS – Department of Ohio. For over 20 years, Ohio Sons have hosted a 4 day/3 night excursion to Washington DC making it possible for veterans, AMVETS family members, and friends to participate in services at Arlington National Cemetery.

Dear AMVETS family and friends,

In his Proclamation in 1957 President Eisenhower called upon the citizenry to “observe Veterans Day, in tribute to those who have thus added strength to the Nation and in renewed dedication to their work, building peace with honor among all nations.”

Fellow Sons and AMVETS family members,

It is with great sadness that I inform you that PNC Harold Collins father In-Law, James Montgomery Sr., passed away last weekend. A Vietnam veteran, James was also an AMVETS lifetime member plus a staunch supporter and friend of Sons of AMVETS in Kentucky and across the nation.

Good morning AMVETS (& AMVETS FAMILY) members,

Fellow Sons, AMVETS family, and friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of Department of KY PDC James A. Grizzle. Commander Jim served as the Department of KY Commander for 7 years. He also served as the Department Sons Coordinator.

Fellow Sons,

The following is the text of an email from Justin Brown regarding legislative and information updates provided by National AMVETS. These will be listed in pdf format to make it easy to copy and share with your local AMVETS family.

Greetings Fellow Sons,

Our Consitition and By-Laws for 2019-2020, with the approved revisions, are now posted. They are available in .doc or pdf format on the "FORMS" page or by clicking on the links listed below.

It is an honor to have been elected Sons of AMVETS National Commander at the 35th National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. Together with the newly elected leadership team, I’m confident we will move this organization forward and accomplish great things.

Greetings all Sons, AMVETS family members, and friends,

At our 35th National Convention in Louisville, KY the Freedom Cash Raffle drawing was held during the Sons' last business session on Saturday August 24, 2019. We are pleased to announce the following winners.

Commander Mick's Project - Gary Sinise Foundation

Fellow Sons, AMVETS Family, and Friends,

During our 40th Anniversary year I have selected the Gary Sinise Foundation (GSF) as my project. The Gary Sinise Foundation serves our nation by honoring our defenders, our veterans, our first responders, our country’s heroes, and their families, and those in need.

They accomplish their mission by creating and supporting unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen, and build communities. Their R.I.S.E. program (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment), builds specially adapted smart homes for our most severely wounded heroes. They also provide home modifications, mobility devices, and adapted vehicles to our injured, wounded, ill, and/or aging heroes.

Another GSF program is Soaring Valor. You may find it interesting that fewer than 500,00 World War II Veterans are still with us. Through Soaring Valor, World War II veterans and their guardians are brought to New Orleans to tour The National WWII Museum built in their honor. Their experience includes entertainment, celebratory meals, and community building with their fellow heroes. Students who accompany our veterans continue their stories with a new appreciation for the sacrifices made by an entire generation, the Greatest Generation. As a Son of a World War II Marine, it is imperative that we make every attempt to honor those Veterans.

The GSF Snowball Express, serves the children and surviving spouse of fallen military heroes. GSF is committed to programming and support that holds space to honor their fallen heroes while also helping create new memories as they move forward. Since 2018, 11639 children of fallen military heroes & their surviving parent/guardian joined us for Snowball Express.

To learn about other GSF programs or help us do a little more by making a donation, please visit: https://donate.garysinisefoundation.org/SonsCommanderProject

Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.

Sincerely,

Michael ‘Mick’ Ciesla - Commander
