Honor & Remember Flag Presented at Sons National Convention

Sons of AMVETS Cmdr. Don Finnegan (L to R) and Honor & Remember CEO George Lutz present Bill and Candy Clemens with a personalized Honor & Remember Flag in honor of their son SSG Shawn Clemens who was killed-in-action on January 29, 2004 in Afghanistan.

In August 2003, SSG Clemens was deployed to Afghanistan as a squad leader for a Sniper Scout Squad as part of HHC Co, 2-87 Infantry, 10th Mountain Infantry Division (Light). During his deployment to Afghanistan, his squad spent many days in the high mountains of eastern Afghanistan and where they were involved in several fire-fights. On 29 January 2004 while on patrol in Ghazni Provence, his squad along with engineers, civil affairs, and Afghan interpreter were involved in a premature explosion of a weapons cache.

For all his actions an an infantryman during his eight years of service, SSG Clemens was awarded: Bronze Star for Valor, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal with Clasp, National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Kosovo Campaign Medal, NATO Kosovo Medal, Afghan Medal, Operation Enduring Freedom Medal, Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge, Expert Rifle Marksmanship Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and Combat Infantry Badge (2 awards).

Honor & Remember is a growing initiative to present a specifically designed flag to family members that represents that the deceased died while in the U.S. military or as a direct result of his/her military service.
