Dept of NY's Convention

It was an honor to attend the Department of NY. Convention June 5th and 6th. I arrived Friday around 5:30pm in Binghamton, NY and caught a shuttle over to the hotel. I got changed just in time to go to the joint opening and a very nice memorial service.

That evening I had the chance to talk and visit with several sons. Saturday morning Ken Barber and I attended the sons meetings and address the floor with Greetings from Commander Briggs. Ken and I talk about the Commanders project, Freedom Cash Raffle, T-shirts, membership and project reporting. Ken and I had the pleasure of attending a luncheon hosted by the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary President, Gloria Morck.

We also visited with the AMVETS Commander, James Benware. He presented us with the privilege of addressing the AMVET floor. We sent greetings from Commander Briggs and National Headquarters and discussed Commander Briggs’ project for this year.

Saturday afternoon we returned to the Sons meeting room for their second session and elections. Sons Department Commander Les Baker and his officers conducted a great meeting. Later that afternoon I had the honor of installing the 2015 – 2016 officers at the Sons awards ceremony. That evening, we had the pleasure of attending Commander Benware’s banquet and be recognize. And the hotel served a great dinner. It was so good, I wanted seconds.

I would like to give a very big thanks to AMVETS Commander Benware , AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary President Gloria Morck, Sons Commander Les Baker, and AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Convention Chairlady Mary Lanphere. She took great care of us. I also want to send a bit thank you to Dept of NY’s Sons Provost Marshal Lee Smith for the Glazier’s hot dogs. They are the best! And finally, I want to thank all the AMVETS Family of the Department of New York for their hospitality and letting us be a part of their Convention.
