AMVETS family members and friends,

Presidential Proclamations are a long-standing tradition for our great nation at Thanksgiving. These declarations acknowledge the blessings we have received but also remind us of our duties to our God, our family, our communities and our country.

The words of John F. Kennedy from Proclamation 3560 in 1963 eloquently express many of our own sentiments during Thanksgiving.

“Today we give our thanks, most of all, for the ideals of honor and faith we inherit from our forefathers – for the decency of purpose, steadfastness of resolve and strength of will, for the courage and the humility, which they possessed and which we must seek every day to emulate. As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them.”

“…… let us earnestly and humbly pray that He will continue to guide and sustain us in the unfinished tasks of achieving peace, justice, and understanding among all men and nations and of ending misery and suffering wherever they exist.”

On Thanksgiving 2017 please include in your prayers those currently active in our Armed Forces and for all the men and women who have served. Their sacrifice ensures our traditions of liberty and freedom will continue to be one of our greatest blessings for generations.

May God bless everyone and on behalf of all the Sons of AMVETS across America, Happy Thanksgiving.

With warmest regards,

Harold Collins
