As AMVETS PNC S John Sisler was such a strong advocate of National Sons of AMVETS, we would like to share a bit of history about Commander Sisler and comments provided by National Sons of AMVETS PNC Charlie Summerall, whose National Commander tenure coincided with Commander Sisler, and AMVETS National Executive Director Joe Chenelly.

PNC Sisler honorably served in the U.S. Army, a veteran of the Vietnam War, before joining Illinois AMVETS Post #169 in North Pekin in 1968. He became a Life Member in 1970 and held virtually every elected office in his post, Department and nationally. PNC Sisler was Commander of the Department of Illinois in 1991. He went on to hold the offices of National Executive Committeeman, Fourth National District Commander, National Second Vice Commander and National First Vice Commander. John became National Commander in 2003. He later served multiple terms on the National Service Foundation Board of Directors.

Per PNC Charlie Summerall: “John was just awesome to serve with. He treated Patti and I super. He even made sure Patti and I rode with him and Jim King in the limo from his testimony on the hill. He did his best to include us in every way possible. Just could not have been treated any better by anyone. I know I will sure miss his presence! Just can’t say enough but, am at a loss for words hearing he has passed!”

Joe Chenelly added “We lost a dear friend and longtime AMVETS leader with the passing of Past National Commander S. John Sisler. The entire organization will miss this great AMVET.

On behalf of all Sons nationwide, THANK YOU Commander Sisler for your service.

National Sons of AMVETS Aid & Support Award is the highest tribute the Sons can bestow. The YouTube link highlights the presentation by Charlie Summerall to John Sisler in 2013. https://youtu.be/B28nAonLg6c
