Commander Thibodeau's Greeting

It is an honor to have been elected Sons of AMVETS National Commander at the 35th National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. Together with the newly elected leadership team, I’m confident we will move this organization forward and accomplish great things. We will continue to assist and support our veterans and the AMVETS family growing this organization to be the best and biggest Veteran Service Organization. 

We renewed our commitment to support veterans through our programs like Sweats for Vets, Undergarment and Veterans Lodging programs to name a few. These programs help obtain sweatshirts, sweatpants, underwear, toiletries and other necessities for veterans. The Veteran lodging helps veterans visit the nations memorials on the national mall in Washington during Veterans Day and “Storm the Hill” our Legislative program during the Spring NEC meetings. 

My Project this year is Help Heal Veterans “HHV”. Help Heal Veterans has provided free therapeutic arts and crafts kits to hospitalized and homebound veterans for generations. These craft kits help injured and recuperating veterans improve fine motor skills, cognitive functioning, manage stress and substance abuse, cope with symptoms of PTS and TBI.   Working with the kits assist in improving their sense of self-esteem and overall physical and mental health. Information on how to obtain crafts kits and how to donate to this project will be placed the Sons website soon. 

Please consider joining the Sons of AMVETS.  There is no better way of giving back to our veterans and our communities then through the Sons of AMVETS.

Eligibility for membership in the Sons of AMVETS shall be limited to all male descendants, grandsons, adopted sons, stepsons, fathers, husbands, widowers and brothers of members of AMVETS, and deceased members of AMVETS, or service personnel who died and would have been eligible for membership in the parent AMVET organization, and are at least eighteen (18) years of age and is not eligible in the parent organization. This is not to include in-laws of any type.”
