Fellow Sons, AMVETS Family and Friends,
The horrific images of 9/11 are etched in the memories of most Americans. The magnitude of innocent lives lost, and countless shattered dreams shocked our nation. The words of former President Georg W. Bush at the Pentagon in 2008 seem very fitting for today. He said: “One of the worst days in America’s history saw some of the bravest acts in Americans’ history. We’ll always honor the heroes of 9/11. And here at this hallowed place, we pledge that we will never forget their sacrifice.”
On December 18, 2001, Congress approved naming September 11 “Patriot Day” to commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In 2009, Congress named September 11 a National Day of Service and Remembrance.
Today, I ask that you join Sons of AMVETS across the country and stand united with all American patriots to pause, reflect, pray, and remember those lost. As we remember, let us all re-dedicate ourselves to be initiative-taking participants in community service to honor every person who lost their lives because of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
May God bless you all and may God Bless America.
Respectfully,
Michael ‘Mick’ Ciesla - Commander
National Sons of AMVETS
